Jan. 15, 2010 - 8:23 a.m.

Student has role in documentary A freshman collision repair technology student is part of the vehicle-restoration crew featured in "Car Czar: Amphicar," to be rebroadcast at 4 p.m. Jan. 21 on the National Geographic Channel. Stephen P. Schwartz, of Huntingdon Valley, was a senior at Lower Moreland High School when he was recommended by a teacher for an internship with the Marquis Auto Restoration Shop in Philadelphia. The documentary chronicles the Marquis team's transformation of an Amphicar, a rare 1967 German-built automobile that could drive on water. Schwartz is halfway through his first year in Penn College's School of Transportation Technology; his participation in the production was shared with school officials by his mother. " I want to take this chance to tell you how highly we think of (Penn College) and are very pleased that Stephen chose and was accepted into your program," Marilyn Schwartz added. "We are very comfortable with him being there and with the future you are helping him to build."

April 2009 Student of the Month – Stephen Schwartz

Stephen Schwartz is the April Student of the Month. He is a senior at Lower Moreland High School and is in his second year of the Collision Repair Technology program at EASTERN. Stephen has been involved at EASTERN as SkillsUSA Secretary in 11th grade, and currently as a Class Ambassador and SkillsUSA Treasurer.

EASTERN’s Collision Repair Technology instructor, Steven Parke, recommended Stephen for an internship at Marquis Auto Restoration in Philadelphia. Through this internship, he is now part of the restoration team for the National Geographic Channel’s new documentary-in-the-making, entitled A Car Czar. The documentary will focus on restoring and altering three different vehicles: an amphibious vehicle, a Z28 Camaro, and a custom show car covered in rust and holes.

At EASTERN, Stephen received certifications in collision pollution prevention, collision safety and received I-Car certification in the fundamental of collision repair, corrosion protection, plastic repair, and refinishing. He also volunteered his time at EASTERN’s Summer Fun “Intro to Automotive and Collision Repair” program for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students in 2008. Outside of EASTERN, Stephen was a member of his 9th grade Student Council and is an accomplished Ice Hockey and Roller Hockey team player.

Stephen plans on attending Penn College of Technology next year to pursue his associate’s degree in Applied Science. He hopes to ultimately work for a family-owned collision repair shop.
